Howard Branch: Root

"Root was a station with a stockyard between Olpe and Madison on the toughest hill going towards Emporia. The track was gone in my days but the stockpen and a barn were still there. The oldtimers on the branch talk about the 2100's (RSD4) 6 axle Alcos ability to start a heavy train of rock at this location when they had to pick up a car of stock." Rod Riley

The stock yard had 14 car capacity, 5 pens, holding pens with 9 car capacity, a well, 2 holding pens, and a 10 ton scale.

I have been unable to locate Root on a maps.
